Pet First Aid Qualified

canine first aid course for dog groomersMany of our students have taken the opportunity to attend the one day Canine First Aid course whilst undergoing their grooming training. This is a one day course held at a local hotel so that we have more space to teach some of the practical aspects of the course; bandaging, CPR, taking a pulse, even mouth-to-snout resuscitation!

Our dogs are small mammals, so their bodies function in a similar way to our own. The skills and knowledge which you learn on this course can help you to ease a dog’s suffering and affect immediate treatment prior to getting it to a vet. In extreme cases, you could save a dog’s life with the skills that you will learn.

From a business perspective, your Pet First Aid certificate displayed in the salon reassures customers that you have the ability to handle most accidents or situations which may occur. It is further reassurance that you are a trained professional with both the skills and supporting knowledge of a professional.

Throughout 2015 The Academy celebrated it’s 10th anniversary as a City & Guilds accredited centre and part of our celebration to mark this milestone was to include the one day Pet First Aid course free of charge. The majority of our students took this opportunity during 2015 and started their grooming career with this additional qualification.

At Firtree we are always keen to learn from our student’s feedback and adapt what we do to improve the experience for our students. The Pet First Aid course has proved so popular and been seen as a valuable part of the student’s training that we have now included it as a part of all student training courses for the foreseeable future. This means that anyone following a course at The Academy will have access to this course without any further charge. It will also assist groomers with compliance with licensing legislation should it be introduced at some point in the future.

Good news eh? Yes, for those who trained from 2015 onwards. So what about those of our students who trained before 2015? We haven’t forgotten you – remember we always say that our door is never closed? We want all of our students to be the best out there in the dog grooming market, and we know we have to put in our share of the effort to achieve that. So this offer is extended to ALL of our students who have ever followed a training course at Firtree, no matter how long ago that was, free of charge. If you would like to undertake this valuable qualification then give Joan a call to find out available dates, she will be pleased to hear from you.

Further information on the first aid course is available from the course web site at where there is also a list of scheduled course dates. Please don’t book your course online as you will be charged the course fee, speak to Joan and it’s free.
